Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has dismissed calls for his resignation, affirming his commitment to addressing the increasing cases of abductions in Kenya. Speaking Tuesday after recording a statement with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at Kilimani Police Station, Muturi described last year’s harrowing abduction of his son.
Muturi revealed that despite making several calls to senior government officials during his son’s abduction in June 2024, he received no response. He credited a top government official’s intervention for his son’s eventual release.
“This matter remains deeply personal to me as a father. I am committed to supporting efforts to ensure justice is served,” Muturi said. He expressed full confidence in Kenya’s investigative agencies and emphasized the government’s duty to protect its citizens.
The CS dismissed calls for his resignation and impeachment, labeling them as baseless and politically motivated. “At my age, I will not engage with statements from inexperienced politicians,” he remarked.
His comments come amid public outcry over unresolved abductions, including the case of the “Mlolongo Four,” whose whereabouts remain unknown. Meanwhile, five abductees Gideon Kibet, Billy Mwangi, Peter Muteti, Bernard Kavuli, and Ronny Kiplangat were released on January 6 at various locations.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and DCI Director Mohamed Amin are set to appear before the Milimani High Court on January 27 to address the abductions. Muturi called for collective efforts to build a safer Kenya, urging citizens to trust in ongoing investigations. Here is the statement
