Mwangi and Karano Emerge Victorious at VetLab Sports Club in Thrilling NCBA Golf Series Leg

Edward Mwangi and Mary Karano delivered outstanding performances at the latest leg of the NCBA Golf Series, held on Saturday, August 24, at the prestigious VetLab Sports Club. Competing in the Division One category, Mwangi and Karano outplayed a strong field of 224 golfers on the challenging par-72 course, securing top honors and qualifying spots for the highly anticipated NCBA Series Grand Finale set for November.

Mwangi, playing off a handicap of 12, showcased his golfing prowess by amassing an impressive 46 points, emerging as the overall winner in the men’s Division One category. His remarkable consistency and skill on the course saw him finish eight points clear of his closest competitor, Sunir Parmar, who also played off a handicap of 12 and posted 38 points. Mwangi’s victory was a testament to his determination and mastery of the VetLab course, a layout known for its demanding fairways and greens.

In the ladies’ Division One category, Mary Karano, also playing off a handicap of 12, delivered a commendable performance to top the leaderboard with 36 points. Her strategic play and steady composure allowed her to navigate the course effectively, securing a well-deserved victory. Karano’s win in such a competitive field underscores her status as one of the top female golfers in the region.

The competition in Division Two was equally intense, with Kennedy Mariga emerging as the top player in the men’s category. Playing off a handicap of 18, Mariga accumulated 41 points, demonstrating a blend of precision and endurance that set him apart from his peers. In the ladies’ Division Two category, Rachel Ndei, playing off a handicap of 15, claimed victory with an impressive performance, highlighting her potential and skill.

The Division Three category saw Benjamin Chemweno rise to the occasion, finishing as the overall winner with 41 points while playing off a handicap of 31. Chemweno’s victory was a notable achievement, as it reflected his ability to handle the challenges posed by the course. In the junior category, Parv Kavia, playing off a handicap of 9, emerged victorious with 30 points, securing his place in the grand finale. Kavia’s success highlights the growing talent among junior golfers in the series.

The guest category featured a strong performance from James Mbui, who, playing off a handicap of 10, finished first with 39 points. In the staff category, Eric Nabutola claimed top honors with 41 points, playing off a handicap of 32. Nabutola’s exceptional display of skill and determination was a highlight of the event.

NCBA Group Corporate Banking Director Charles Omondi, speaking at the event, expressed his satisfaction with the series’ progress, noting the high level of competition and camaraderie among participants. “The Golf Series remains a key initiative for NCBA, bringing together golfers from across the country to compete, share experiences, and strengthen bonds,” Omondi remarked. He praised the VetLab Sports Club for providing a fantastic venue and commended the golfers for their exceptional talent and sportsmanship.

In line with its sustainability agenda, NCBA also took the opportunity to contribute to environmental conservation by planting over 100 indigenous trees at the VetLab Sports Club. This initiative aims to enhance the club’s green spaces and support the broader goal of environmental preservation.

As the NCBA Golf Series gains momentum, with each leg attracting a growing number of participants, the focus now shifts to the upcoming Nanyuki leg, scheduled for Saturday, August 31. With the grand finale fast approaching, the stage is set for a thrilling conclusion to the 2024 series, as top golfers from across the country compete for the ultimate prize.
