Nairobi Mobility CECM Pledges Improved Infrastructure Across the City

The newly-appointed County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Mobility and Works in Nairobi, Ibrahim Auma, has assured residents of significant improvements in the city’s infrastructure. In his inaugural meeting with the Mobility and Works sector team, Mr. Auma outlined his vision and strategic goals aimed at enhancing Nairobi’s infrastructure, street lighting, and overall mobility.

A Vision for Innovation and Efficiency

Taking the reins of the Mobility and Works sector, Mr. Auma emphasized the need for innovation, efficiency, and collaboration to drive the sector forward. He expressed his commitment to ensuring that Nairobians experience tangible improvements in infrastructure, stressing that the county government is keen on delivering results that directly impact the lives of the city’s residents.

“We want to look at the sector’s quick wins and how soon we can ensure Nairobians feel us on the ground through the implementation and revival of stalled projects and continued rehabilitation of new projects. We will also ensure the reduction of vandalism of street lighting bulbs and poles,” said Mr. Auma.

His words reflect a clear directive for the sector to prioritize projects that can be quickly implemented to produce immediate benefits for the city. This approach not only focuses on new developments but also on reviving projects that had previously stalled, ensuring that no resources are wasted and that ongoing works are completed to improve service delivery.

Addressing Infrastructure Challenges

One of the critical areas of focus for Mr. Auma is the improvement of Nairobi’s street lighting. He acknowledged the challenges posed by the vandalism of street lighting bulbs and poles, which has contributed to safety concerns in various parts of the city. By reducing such vandalism, the county aims to enhance security and improve the night-time environment for residents and businesses alike.

Street lighting is a fundamental aspect of urban infrastructure that directly impacts the quality of life in Nairobi. Properly lit streets not only deter crime but also boost the local economy by extending business hours and improving accessibility. Mr. Auma’s commitment to tackling this issue is a step towards making Nairobi a safer and more vibrant city.

Setting the Stage for Sectoral Success

During the meeting, Mr. Auma established key protocols designed to enhance the performance of the Mobility and Works sector. These protocols are expected to streamline operations, ensure accountability, and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the sector.

He also called for comprehensive updates on sector strategies, policies, human resources, budget planning, procurement processes, and the status of sector installations. By staying informed about every aspect of the sector’s operations, Mr. Auma aims to maintain a hands-on approach to leadership, ensuring that the county government can respond quickly to emerging challenges and opportunities.

He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to achieve significant milestones, urging them to work collaboratively to meet the needs of the county’s residents and businesses.

The encouragement to foster teamwork within the sector is a recognition that the success of Nairobi’s infrastructure projects depends on the collective efforts of all involved. By promoting a culture of cooperation and shared responsibility, Mr. Auma is laying the groundwork for sustainable improvements in the city’s infrastructure.

A Positive Outlook for Nairobi
