Beauty and lifestyle creator Nairofey is urging Kenyans to consume online influencer content responsibly to avoid unnecessary pressure. Her advice follows the recent uproar caused by the Bahatis’ publicity stunts before launching their new Netflix reality show.
Nairofey, seen in a recent Instagram post, emphasizes the need for discernment when engaging with influencer content. “Sometimes influencers will do things to provoke reactions and comments,” she explained. “Content creators aren’t at fault for introducing us to these lifestyles.”
She pointed out that much of the seemingly glamorous life portrayed online is curated for views. “When you see me filling up my fridge, it might make you feel inadequate, as if you’re losing in life,” she said. “We often don’t show the months of saving that went into it.”
Nairofey stressed the importance of setting boundaries when consuming this content. “Take what resonates and don’t pressure yourself into believing everything. Remember, just like you go to your office every day, influencers wake up, plan their content, and create videos to earn a living.”
She also addressed the misleading nature of the “Ni God and I’m Lucky” phrase often used to explain success. “People claim they manifested a Mercedes Benz and it just magically appeared. It doesn’t happen like that,” she stated. “There needs to be more honesty about the effort and time behind these successes.”
