As the new academic year kicks off, Narok County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia has emphasized the critical role of National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) in ensuring that all children within their jurisdictions return to school. In a move aimed at ensuring no child is left behind, Lotiatia disclosed that NGAO officers are under direct instructions to visit every village and confirm that every student is in school for the first term.
Lotiatia, speaking from his office, explained that the officers would be conducting thorough follow-ups in their respective areas, especially to locate any children who may have been left behind during the school opening period. This initiative targets not only ensuring attendance but also discouraging any form of absenteeism that might result from various challenges children face at home, including financial difficulties or family issues.
The county commissioner also warned parents that those whose children fail to report to school as expected would be held accountable. He emphasized that there could be serious legal consequences, including arrest and prosecution, for parents who do not comply with the government’s directive to send their children to school.
“We are very alert to ensure no child is left behind as schools open. We will be moving from village to village to confirm that all children have reported back to school,” Lotiatia said. The government will also require schools to provide lists of children who have not attended classes, so further steps can be taken to address the issue.
In his remarks, Lotiatia expressed concern over the increasing number of school-going girls who may have become pregnant during the long school holiday. However, he encouraged the affected students to return to school and continue with their education while they await the delivery of their babies. The government has made efforts to ensure that pregnant students can access education without discrimination or exclusion.
As the first term begins, the vigilance of NGAO officers and schools will play a pivotal role in ensuring that every child returns to school and that education remains a top priority for all in Narok County.
