Nicholas Bodo has been appointed as the Acting Managing Director of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), effective immediately. This announcement was made by KAA Board Chair Caleb Kositany in a notice to employees on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.
Bodo’s appointment comes in the wake of KAA re-advertising the recruitment for the position of Managing Director/CEO on December 24, 2024. The decision ensures that the organization maintains operational continuity as it searches for a permanent leader.
“In the interim period, and to ensure a smooth transition, the Board has appointed Mr. Nicholas Bodo as the Acting Managing Director, effective immediately,” said Kositany. The notice emphasized that Bodo will serve in the acting capacity until the recruitment process concludes and a substantive Managing Director/CEO is in place.
Until his new appointment, Bodo served as the Director of Air Services in the Ministry of Transport. His extensive background in aviation has been a key factor in his selection. Kositany lauded Bodo’s experience, highlighting his “wealth of knowledge in all matters of aviation.”
The Board Chair also urged KAA employees to offer Bodo their full cooperation and support during his tenure, underscoring the importance of teamwork in maintaining the Authority’s strategic operations and objectives.
Bodo’s appointment marks a critical moment for KAA, an organization pivotal to Kenya’s aviation sector and a key driver of economic growth. As the acting MD, he will oversee the Authority’s operations and spearhead its mission to enhance airport management and aviation services across the country.
The re-advertisement of the Managing Director/CEO position underscores the Board’s commitment to a transparent and merit-based selection process. With Bodo at the helm in an acting capacity, KAA aims to maintain its focus on operational excellence and service delivery during this transitional phase.
This leadership change comes at a time when KAA faces numerous opportunities and challenges, including infrastructure development, increased air traffic, and enhancing customer experience. Bodo’s expertise is expected to play a significant role in navigating these areas while ensuring continuity of leadership.
As stakeholders await the appointment of a substantive Managing Director/CEO, Bodo’s leadership will be crucial in maintaining the momentum of KAA’s strategic initiatives and reinforcing Kenya’s position as a leading aviation hub in the region.
