Nicki Minaj’s legal troubles have taken a dramatic turn as an arrest warrant for the rapper has been denied. This comes after Brandon Garrett, a man claiming to be her former manager, filed a lawsuit accusing the rapper of assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The charges stem from an alleged incident during Minaj’s tour in Detroit in April 2024.
Garrett’s lawsuit claims that Minaj became enraged after discovering that instead of carrying out an errand personally, he had delegated it to another staff member. According to Garrett, Minaj confronted him angrily in her dressing room, slapping him across the face and smacking his wrists, causing a scene in front of other staff members. He also alleges that she verbally threatened him, shouting, “Are you freaking crazy having him pick up my prescription? Your life is over!”
Following the altercation, Garrett says he was left in Detroit, unable to return to the tour bus, forcing him to book his own flight back to Chicago. He also claims to have been traumatized by the incident, staying in his hotel room for several days due to fear and anxiety.
Despite the seriousness of the accusations, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has denied the request for an arrest warrant, citing “insufficient evidence” that a crime had been committed. They have urged the Detroit Police Department to conduct further investigation into the matter to gather additional evidence before pursuing criminal charges.
In response to the lawsuit, Minaj’s lawyer, Judd Burstein, has denied the allegations, calling them “false and frivolous.” He also clarified that Garrett was Minaj’s former assistant, not her manager, and stated that she had not been formally served with the complaint.
This legal battle is ongoing, and while Minaj may not face an arrest at this time, the case raises questions about the pressures and tensions behind the scenes of her high-profile career.
