Nurturing Talents in West Pokot: A Call to Action for Teachers and Parents

The teachers of West Pokot County have been urged to actively involve all students in co-curricular activities. This directive, issued by the Assistant Executive Secretary of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) in West Pokot, Mathew Merimuk, highlights the importance of nurturing talents alongside academic pursuits.

Mathew Merimuk emphasized that students from West Pokot County should be given equal opportunities to excel not only in academics but also in sports and other co-curricular activities. “Learners from this county should also have an opportunity to shine in sports and academics so that they can be all-round students,” Merimuk stated, underscoring the significance of a balanced education that fosters both intellectual and physical growth.

Merimuk also called upon parents to play an active role in the education of their children. He reminded parents that it is a constitutional right for all learners to access education, which will be beneficial for their future. “All parents should support the education of their children because it is a constitutional right for all learners to access education which will be useful in their lives in the future,” he noted. This appeal for parental involvement is crucial in ensuring that students receive the necessary support and encouragement to pursue their passions and talents.

During the official opening of the Second Term Schools Championship of Pokot South Sub-county at Kaptabuk Wembley stadium, Merimuk urged all participants to uphold high standards of integrity. This championship serves as a platform for students to showcase their talents and compete in a fair and respectful manner.

In a show of support for the event, the West Pokot KUPPET office provided water for the teachers participating in the championship. This gesture underscores the union’s commitment to supporting both teachers and students in their efforts to achieve excellence in co-curricular activities.
