Nyabondo High School emerged triumphant in the Nyanza Secondary School boys’ volleyball championships, securing the coveted title with a resounding victory over Sagegi Mixed. The finals, held at Cardinal Otunga High School in Mosocho, showcased Nyabondo’s dominance as they clinched a straight-set win, 25-19, 25-19, 25-25.
In a thrilling semifinal clash, Sagegi Mixed overcame Gogo Mixed in a five-set battle, while Nyabondo prevailed over Nyabisia from Kisii County in a competitive encounter, securing their spot in the finals.
The girls’ category saw Nyakongo overpower Ogande in straight sets, 25-15, 25-21, 25-20, to claim the championship title. Nyakongo’s journey to victory included a hard-fought semifinal victory over defending champions Nyakach, setting up a final showdown against Ogande, who defeated Nyakembene in the semifinals.
In other sports disciplines, Onjiko School defended their boys’ 3×3 basketball title with a 15-11 victory over Sawagongo in the finals. The semifinals witnessed Onjiko defeating Ambira and Sawagongo overpowering Maseno School. Meanwhile, Ng’iya emerged victorious in the girls’ 3×3 basketball category, dethroning Nyakach with a decisive 10-6 win in the final match.
Oyugi Ogango retained their netball title in dominant fashion, outclassing Nyakach Girls 63-25 in the championship match. Lambwe secured the third-place spot after defeating Nyango 37-27.
In a surprising turn of events in girls’ football, newcomers Alara from Homa Bay County upset the favorites Nyakach Girls 2-1 to claim their first regional title.
The fate of the boys’ football final remains undecided, with the match between Matutu PAG and Koderobara yet to be determined due to an abandoned semifinal clash between Matutu PAG and Agoro Sare.
