Joyce Wanjeri is desperately searching for her 1-year-old son, Ian Kariuki, who was reportedly kidnapped by their nanny, Jane Nyambura Wanjohi, on Friday, May 31. The incident was reported at Kiamwathi Patrol Base and is documented under Occurrence Book (OB) number 02/01/06/2024.
Joyce Wanjeri has been tirelessly searching for her son, Ian Kariuki, for the past six days. According to Wanjeri, the trail went cold, with the last sighting of Nyambura in Mweiga town, Nyeri, on June 4, at a hotel. “The suspect was last seen in Mweiga town, Nyeri, on Tuesday, June 4 at 8 am, accompanied by another woman who was carrying my son on her back. The three entered a hotel and asked for food,” Wanjeri reported.
Wanjeri, a teacher at Mathenge Technical Training Institute in Nyeri, said that Nyambura had been employed for the past two months and had seemed quiet and trouble-free. The family mentioned that tracing Nyambura had been difficult since she did not take her belongings, including her phone. Michael Kariuki, Wanjeri’s husband, highlighted the close bond between Ian and the nanny, mentioning that Ian often refused to be held by anyone else.
“There were times when my son refused to be held by anyone but his nanny,” Kariuki stated. He also mentioned being in contact with Nyambura’s family in Karatina town, her rural home. Nyambura previously worked as a caretaker for an elderly woman in Chaka town but left the job, citing overwork.
