Ogun State has embarked on a transformative journey to modernize its agricultural sector through the Farmer Information Management System (OGFIMS). This innovative initiative aims to harness the power of technology and data to drive agricultural development and improve the livelihoods of farmers and Value Chain Actors (VCAs) across the state.
As part of this effort, a comprehensive digital registration exercise was conducted to create a robust database of farmers and VCAs. The initiative is a cornerstone of the broader Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), which seeks to enhance the efficiency, productivity, and sustainability of the agricultural sector. By leveraging digital tools and strategies, the state aims to foster a more connected and data-driven agricultural ecosystem.
The digital registration process was meticulously planned and executed. A team of 70 enumerators was trained to use advanced digital survey tools to collect data efficiently and accurately. These enumerators were organized into four regional teams, each supported by supervisors and monitoring and evaluation officers, creating a total team of 84 personnel. This collaborative effort ensured comprehensive coverage and high-quality data collection across the state.
The registration exercise, which spanned from July to November 2023, successfully captured the details of 160,000 farmers and VCAs. This data is expected to serve as a critical resource for planning, policy-making, and implementation of agricultural programs. By understanding the demographics, needs, and challenges of farmers and VCAs, the state can tailor interventions to address specific issues and maximize impact.
