Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT), in collaboration with the Elgeyo Marakwet County Cereal Growers Association and FreshCrop Limited, has launched an initiative to advance the agricultural sector in the region through wider inclusivity. The forum, held at a hotel in Iten, convened various stakeholders to discuss strategies for bolstering food security and promoting resilience against climate variability by increasing the involvement of women and youth in agriculture.
The event emphasized the importance of engaging diverse demographics to create a more inclusive agricultural environment. Patrick Sang, a representative from the Elgeyo Marakwet County Cereal Growers Association, highlighted the significance of involving women and youth for inclusive growth. FreshCrop Limited, a leading certified seed company in East Africa, has been pivotal in supporting grassroots farmers through collaborations with the county government’s Department of Agriculture, cooperative societies, farmers’ service centres, and its FreshCrop Tot extension model. These efforts have greatly contributed to enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability.

He noted, “We are excited to contribute to discussions at the TAAT forum and to work alongside stakeholders to improve agricultural practices and ensure food security in East Africa. Our partnerships and initiatives aim to empower farmers with the tools and knowledge they need to thrive.” The forum also saw active participation from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), underscoring a collective commitment to advancing agricultural practices in the region.
