Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has firmly dismissed the growing calls for President William Ruto’s ouster, declaring that the President is not going anywhere. Sudi’s remarks came during a rally in Kibirech, Elgeyo Marakwet County, on Thursday, January 10, 2025, where he addressed political critics who have been using social media to push for Ruto’s removal.
In a bold statement, Sudi ridiculed online critics, whom he referred to as “wakora” (thugs), emphasizing that their efforts to remove the President were in vain. “Si mnajua wale wakora wa mtandao kule Nairobi? Wanapiga kelele ati sijui Ruto must go? Si mlisikia niliwaambia jana, waruke juu, waende chini, waende kando, hakuna penye Ruto anaenda,” Sudi remarked, mocking the viral hashtag #RutoMustGo that has gained traction on platforms like X.
The MP’s defiant tone underlined his belief that no amount of online noise could force the President out of office. He assured the crowd that despite the attacks, President Ruto remains unshaken. The MP added that, in his view, no individual or group has the right to claim entitlement to the leadership of the country, emphasizing that leadership is open to all Kenyans regardless of their background.
Sudi took the opportunity to rally support for himself, lightheartedly suggesting that even ordinary citizens from different communities, such as the Luhya or Turkana, could rise to lead the nation. “Ata Mluhya, Mturkana anaweza ongoza; Mkenya yeyote ako na uwezo wa kuongoza. Si ata mimi mtanitanipa rais siku ingine?” he asked, hinting at his own presidential ambitions.
His comments come amid growing frustration within certain segments of the population, particularly after the Gen Z-led protests and the subsequent backlash against the Ruto administration. The #RutoMustGo campaign has been a focal point of online activism, reflecting the unrest over various national issues. However, with leaders like Sudi challenging these movements, it remains to be seen whether such calls will gain significant political traction.
As the political climate continues to evolve, it is clear that President Ruto’s critics are not backing down, but neither are his loyalists, who continue to fiercely defend his leadership.
