Kenyan music fans were abuzz recently when celebrated artists Otile Brown and Jovial shared behind-the-scenes photos from a music video shoot. The images, showcasing playful and intimate moments, suggest that the duo may be working on yet another musical collaboration.
Otile fueled the speculation with a cryptic caption under the photos, where he referred to Jovial in a sentimental and endearing tone. He wrote:
“Pisces ♓️ kichaa huyu lakini sasa ntafanyaje.. ni wangu One day I’ll tell y’all a story about this chilee “
This playful statement left fans intrigued, with many eager to know whether their partnership extends beyond the music scene. A curious fan, salome_kipenzi, asked in the comments, “So this your lover? Please just am asking .”
The duo’s past collaborations, including hit tracks like Jeraha, Such Kinda Love, Amor, and Zichune, have been celebrated as some of the best love ballads in the Kenyan music scene. These songs were created during Jovial’s time under Otile’s Just In Love music label, where she was signed early in her career.
Jovial’s Journey to Independence
Despite the success of their professional relationship, Jovial decided to part ways with Otile’s label in 2022. Speaking to content creator Mungai Eve, Jovial revealed that going independent was the best decision she ever made. She highlighted the challenges she faced as a signed artist, emphasizing the importance of taking control of her career.
“I’m independent, not under a label, very independent. I’m done with people treating me badly. At the moment, I handle everything for myself, and I’m happy about it. I hope this motivates another female artiste out there to know that you can go independent and make it,” she said.
The Coast-based singer added that leaving the record label allowed her to experience creative freedom and expand her boundaries as an artist.
“Right now I have such creative freedom after leaving the record label. I can learn more. I’m a hustler; I don’t like being served everything on a plate. Working independently has allowed me to do so much more than I could before,” Jovial explained.
A Friendship Rooted in Mutual Respect
Despite their professional split, Jovial maintains a cordial relationship with Otile. She acknowledged that the two are still good friends and open to collaborating. However, she noted that Otile often initiates their projects.
“We are friends with Otile, so he calls like, ‘Let’s work on something,’ and then I show up, and we work. I know him as someone who reaches out when he needs to, but you cannot just reach out to him anytime,” Jovial shared.
Their ability to work together even after parting ways speaks to their mutual respect and shared passion for music.
The Power of Talent and Collaboration
Jovial also reflected on the importance of collaborations in her career, crediting her talent and reputation for attracting other artists.
“I feel like where there is talent, you don’t have to do much. People just recognize it and want to work with you. Sababu ukiangalia collaborations zingine, sio mimi nimemtafuta, and I thank God for that. I’m not bragging,” she said.
Fans Anticipate Another Hit
The behind-the-scenes photos have reignited excitement among fans, who have long admired the chemistry between Otile and Jovial. Whether the project is a continuation of their romantic ballads or a new sound altogether, one thing is clear—their collaboration is bound to capture the hearts of many.
As both artists continue to push boundaries in their musical journeys, their partnership serves as a testament to the power of collaboration, respect, and creative freedom in the Kenyan music industry. Fans eagerly await the official release of the new project, hoping it will be another timeless hit.
