Over 4 million prepaid customers have successfully updated their meters ahead of the scheduled deadline. The Company’s General Manager in charge of Commercial Services and Sales, Eng. Rosemary Oduor, expressed her gratitude to customers for their unwavering support in the ongoing prepaid meters update campaign, aptly named “Update Token Meter Yako.”
“We thank all our customers for their support in this ongoing global exercise. So far, we are happy that over 56% of all our prepaid customers have updated their meters so that they can continue to enjoy access to electricity,” said Eng. Oduor.
A Comprehensive Campaign
The company has meticulously scheduled updates for over 7.2 million prepaid token meters to ensure customers receive the necessary reset and update codes upon purchasing their tokens. The remaining customers, totaling approximately 200,000, are slated to be addressed in the coming days.
“Once a meter is scheduled, a customer receives an SMS notification and thereafter the update codes are sent to the customer upon purchasing their electricity tokens. Our customers are required to update their meters as soon as they receive their codes to continue enjoying access to electricity. We are therefore kindly urging those who have not updated yet to purchase their tokens upon which they will receive their codes and be able to update their meters,” Eng. Oduor explained.
Ensuring a Seamless Update Process
Eng. Oduor reassured customers that the meter update process will not affect the price of electricity or cause tokens to deplete faster. She also emphasized that the update does not interfere with existing tokens already loaded into the meter. However, she advised customers to load any unutilized older tokens before updating their meters, as failure to do so will render them invalid.
To further assist customers, the company has provided an alternative method to access their update codes. “We have made sure that any prepaid customer is able to get their codes, even in cases where they have lost the SMS. By using our USSD code *977#, any customer can access their codes once their meter has been scheduled. We are also utilizing our social media pages to make this exercise seamless for all our customers,” Eng. Oduor added.
Global Standard Compliance
The ‘Update Token Meter Yako’ campaign is part of a broader global initiative targeting all prepaid meters that use the Standard Transfer Specification (STS). STS is a universal method for transferring tokens to prepaid meters, ensuring the security of generated tokens and promoting standardized practices across the industry.
