A 42-year-old father and a 33-year-old mother were arrested in Colorado after allegedly abandoning their newborn child on Christmas Day. The infant, wearing only a diaper, was left in a car seat on a roadway median. Authorities charged both parents with felony child abuse.
Deputies responded to a 911 call at approximately 9:20 a.m. on Christmas Day. A passerby reported seeing an unattended baby in a car seat near Pecos Street in Denver. The child, described as being of mixed race or Hispanic descent, appeared vulnerable and alone in the cold. The concerned caller stopped to assist the baby before notifying law enforcement.
Upon arrival, first responders began canvassing the area, seeking surveillance footage or witnesses who might provide information about the incident. The car seat, notable for a sign reading “Display only. Not intended for sale,” was photographed and shared publicly in an effort to identify the family or individuals responsible for the child’s abandonment.
Later that day, authorities located family members of the infant and continued their investigation. The following evening, the baby’s biological parents were identified and arrested. The infant was taken to a local children’s hospital for evaluation as a precautionary measure.
Preliminary reports indicated that the parents had been arguing when the incident occurred. The father allegedly placed the baby on the median and walked away during the dispute. The mother, instead of retrieving her child, contacted her stepfather for a ride.
In court, the judge criticized the mother, calling her a danger to her son and citing both physical and emotional harm. Both parents are currently being held on $50,000 bond and are scheduled to appear in court again on Monday.
This case has drawn significant attention, highlighting the vulnerability of children and the importance of community vigilance in ensuring their safety.
