A Pennsylvania man has been arrested after allegedly shooting an Instacart driver who had arrived at his home to deliver groceries. The incident occurred on the night of January 18, 2025, in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. Nicholas Sabo, 43, is facing charges of recklessly endangering another person after he allegedly fired a shot at a 35-year-old Instacart driver who was making a delivery to the Sabo residence.
The situation began when Sabo’s wife placed an order for groceries through Instacart, purchasing items from Weis Markets. However, she did not inform her husband about the order. Later, she received a notification from a security app linked to a surveillance camera on their property, which showed activity near a utility trailer and their family vehicles. The app led her to believe that someone might be attempting to break into the trailer.
Upon receiving the alert, Sabo’s wife, unaware that the delivery was on its way, informed her husband about the potential break-in. At this point, Nicholas Sabo retrieved his Glock 19 handgun and went outside to investigate. As he approached the area, he allegedly spotted the Instacart driver, who had arrived at the home with the grocery order. Without any clear justification, Sabo fired at the driver, striking him in the leg.
The delivery driver, who had been accompanied by his wife and daughter, was able to flee the scene after being shot. He made it back to his car and drove off, seeking medical attention. He later called 911 and was found by police on a nearby street. Authorities discovered that the bullet had passed through one of his legs and struck the other, causing significant injury. The driver was transported to Geisinger Community Medical Center, where he underwent surgery for his wounds.
Meanwhile, at the Sabo residence, police found Sabo’s wife in a distressed state. She was reportedly panicked and spoke with officers about the events leading up to the shooting. Nicholas Sabo, upon questioning, directed the police to the Glock 19 handgun in the kitchen, which was seized as evidence. He explained that his wife had informed him of the possible break-in, but he did not provide any further explanation for his actions. Police noted that Sabo gave a brief statement, but it did not offer any justification for the shooting.
The shooting remains under investigation, and additional charges may be brought against Sabo as the authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. He was arrested and taken into custody, where he is being held at the Lackawanna County Jail on a $25,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 29, 2025.
This incident has raised concerns about the potential for violent responses to misunderstandings, especially in the context of property security. The shooting has drawn attention to the risks involved when individuals take matters into their own hands without properly assessing the situation or understanding the true nature of the threat. In this case, a simple grocery delivery turned into a violent encounter, leaving the driver injured and the Sabo family facing serious legal consequences.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are working to determine whether any additional charges, such as aggravated assault or attempted murder, will be filed against Sabo. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of clear communication and careful judgment when responding to perceived threats, particularly when firearms are involved.
