Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has unveiled a comprehensive plan aimed at achieving a 100% transition rate of students through various levels of education in his constituency. This ambitious initiative is part of a broader strategy to eradicate poverty in the region by ensuring every child has access to education.
Salasya’s bursary provision model is central to this effort, designed to ensure that all applicants receive financial support for their education. The MP emphasized that this inclusive approach is crucial in eliminating discrimination and ensuring that every child can access basic education, which he believes is foundational to personal development and the formation of a prosperous life.
In a recent address at the Annual General Meeting of St. Stephen Maraba Secondary School, Salasya highlighted his commitment to seeing all school-going children in Mumias East access education. He promised that students completing Form Four who do not qualify for university would not be left behind. Salasya has set up programs to enroll these students in technical institutes, with his office covering the admission fees while the national government pays for their tuition.
Moreover, Salasya has invested significantly in the East Wanga Medical Training College. He is funding the construction of a multi-storey tuition block, which will enable the institution to offer more courses, thus benefiting the local community by expanding educational opportunities.
Salasya’s dedication to education was further underscored by his promise to the students at St. Stephen Maraba Secondary School: those who excel in this year’s exams will be rewarded with a flight ride, a gesture aimed at motivating them to achieve their best.
