Detectives arrested six suspects and recovered police communication radios and two pistols in Ruaka, Kiambu County. The incident occurred at 11 am when the male suspects attempted to break into a house, mistakenly believing it was unoccupied. However, the homeowners were present and raised the alarm, prompting an immediate police response.
Kiambaa Sub-county Police Commander Pius Mwanthi provided details of the incident. “The gang went to the house at 11 am. To their shock, they learned the owners were in and ran downstairs as an alarm was raised,” Mwanthi explained. The gangsters quickly fled the scene, boarding an oncoming matatu headed for Nairobi. Thanks to the prompt alert from the police on patrol, the matatu was intercepted just a few meters away, and the gangsters were apprehended.
In addition to the communication radios and pistols, police recovered several pieces of equipment believed to be used by the gang for breaking into houses and other premises. Mwanthi acknowledged the recent surge in break-ins within Kiambu and its environs, assuring residents that security operations have been intensified to contain the crime wave. “We are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of our community and to bring these criminals to justice,” Mwanthi said.
The arrested suspects are expected to face rigorous interrogation as detectives plan to search their respective houses for more evidence. This proactive approach aims to dismantle the gang’s operations and prevent future incidents.
