Police in Homabay County are investigating a case involving a 16-year-old student accused of killing his mother, Nelis Ogutu. The suspect, a Form 4 student at Nyatoto Mixed Secondary School, allegedly strangled his mother to death before hacking her body with a machete after returning home from school on Thursday evening.
Kayanja Sub Location Assistant Chief Moses Sirawa confirmed the incident, stating that the motive behind the murder remains unclear. Reports indicate that the attack occurred shortly after the family had their evening meal.
Neighbors, drawn by the commotion, discovered the 39-year-old victim lying on the ground. They apprehended the suspect at the scene and handed him over to the police. Detectives suspect that the student may have been driven by mental health issues to commit the crime.
The body of the deceased was taken to Kirindo Mortuary for further examination.
