Police Officer Arrested After Shooting Tuk-Tuk Operators Sent to ‘Kidnap’ Him

A police officer stationed in Kakamega County has been arrested following a shooting incident involving a tuk-tuk crew. The altercation, which took place recently, has raised serious concerns about police conduct and public safety.

According to a reports, the incident unfolded when Police Constable Nathan Bett, who was deployed to maintain order at the Kakamega court premises, returned his Ceska pistol, which was loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition. The officer, involved in a scuffle with a group of tuk-tuk operators, fired two rounds of ammunition during the confrontation.

Constable Bett claims that the tuk-tuk crew had initially refused to stop at the Kakamega Police Station gate, which he was trying to enter. The officer alleged that the tuk-tuk operators had intended to kidnap him, prompting him to fire in self-defense. However, this account has been met with skepticism as the incident continues to unfold.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the officer’s actions resulted in serious injuries to a 28-year-old man, who sustained two gunshot wounds—one to the left shoulder and another that penetrated his right collarbone and exited through the left collarbone. The injured individual was first taken to Mukumu Dispensary before being referred to Oasis Multispecialty Hospital in Kakamega for further treatment. His condition remains under close observation as medical personnel work to address his injuries.
