A dramatic operation conducted by a multi-agency team in Nairobi has led to the arrest of a police officer and the dismantling of a shisha joint suspected of being involved in drug and sex trafficking. The operation, carried out by sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada), and the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), was the culmination of months of surveillance and intelligence gathering.
The police officer, who is also the owner of the premises, was arrested during the raid after law enforcement agents discovered an unlicensed CZ Pistol, loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, in his possession. Additionally, authorities seized a significant cache of firearms, including 20 rounds of 7.62 by 39mm ammunition, further highlighting the scale of criminal activities taking place at the premises.
The lounge, which had been under surveillance for suspected involvement in both drug and sex trafficking, was reportedly a hotspot for underage girls trafficked from neighboring refugee camps. According to sources, the officer and his wife, who was absent at the time of the raid, were deeply involved in these illicit activities, further complicating the operation’s findings. Investigators uncovered evidence of underage sex trafficking and drug peddling activities happening at the lounge, with the facility being used as a front for these illegal operations.
In addition to the firearms and ammunition, authorities also discovered marijuana and shisha bongs suspected of being laced with illicit substances. The investigation revealed that the lounge was used as a base for distributing drugs and engaging in sex trafficking, with underage girls reportedly brought into the country for exploitation.
Upon his arrest, the police officer was promptly booked at Muthaiga Police Station, where he is being held in custody pending arraignment. He is expected to appear before the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Law Courts, where he will face charges related to drug trafficking, illegal possession of firearms, and involvement in sex trafficking.
This raid comes as part of a broader push by Kenyan authorities to combat drug abuse and trafficking in the country, with the involvement of law enforcement agencies and government bodies such as Nacada and the ANU. The multi-agency operation has been hailed as a significant step in addressing the growing concern over drug abuse and trafficking, particularly involving vulnerable groups like minors.
