A tragic incident unfolded at Bondo Sub-County Hospital when a 14-year-old boy succumbed to injuries sustained after being stabbed by a police officer on Monday night. The teenager, who was among two patients attacked, passed away on Tuesday morning, a day after the shocking event that has left the community in distress.
The suspect, a police officer attached to Aram Police Station in Rarieda Sub-County, had been admitted to the male ward the previous day. At around midnight, chilling screams echoed through the ward, alerting the hospital’s nurses and the clinical officer on duty to a possible emergency.
Upon arrival, medical personnel discovered that the officer had already stabbed the 14-year-old boy in the neck and a 20-year-old patient in the chest. Witnesses recount that the officer was advancing toward a third patient when healthcare workers raised the alarm, prompting the intervention of additional staff and security guards. The officer, who was still wielding a knife, was eventually subdued and disarmed before he could cause further harm.
Confirming the incident, Bondo Sub-County Police Commander Robert Aboki stated that immediate action was taken, with the officer being turned over to law enforcement authorities upon their arrival. Siaya County Police Commander Serah Koki assured the public that investigations are underway, with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) handling the case to determine further legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, the 20-year-old victim remains in hospital, having undergone an X-ray examination to assess the severity of his injuries. Medical personnel have reported that he is in stable condition and receiving ongoing treatment.
The shocking nature of this incident has sparked widespread concern, with many questioning how an officer in a hospital setting was able to carry out such an attack. Authorities have yet to disclose what led to the violent outburst, and whether the officer exhibited any signs of distress or instability prior to the incident.
As investigations continue, the family of the deceased teen, along with the wider community, is mourning the loss of a young life that was cut short in a place meant to offer healing and safety. Calls for justice and stricter measures in handling mentally or emotionally distressed officers have emerged, with many urging law enforcement agencies to prioritize mental health evaluations.
The case is expected to progress under the DCI’s supervision, with further details anticipated as investigations unfold.
