A pair of suspected porch pirates in New Jersey became infamous after they were caught on video stealing packages from a home, with one of them even performing a “twerk” in front of the victim’s Ring doorbell camera. The bizarre incident escalated when the suspects returned to the same home a few days later to complain about the footage being posted online.
The theft took place on the evening of Monday, December 9, 2024, in the Independence Square Townhomes in Sicklerville, located about 100 miles southwest of Manhattan. Around 6:36 p.m., two individuals approached the front door of a residence. One of them grabbed an Amazon package containing glasses and baby items worth $74. The second suspect, in a seemingly taunting gesture, began twerking in front of the camera before both suspects fled the scene.
The victim, upon reviewing the footage, decided to post the video on the Ring Neighbors app’s “Safety and Security” feature, hoping to identify the thieves and alert neighbors about the crime. The video quickly gained attention, and the suspects’ actions became a viral sensation.
However, what followed was even more bizarre. On the evening of Wednesday, December 11, just two days after the theft, the suspects returned to the same home. Apparently, they had seen the video online and were not pleased with their newfound internet fame. At around 7:02 p.m., the first suspect stayed across the street while the second suspect approached the victim’s Ring camera. Holding up their phone with the Ring Neighbors app on the screen, the second suspect said, “Come on dude, not cool bro, come on not cool… that’s my a– on the internet!” before running back across the street.
But the strange behavior didn’t stop there. At 7:10 p.m., the second suspect returned to the home a second time, this time holding one of the stolen glasses, which appeared to be broken. The suspect placed the glass on the front step and said, “Uh, I meant to give this back” before fleeing the scene once again.
The second suspect was wearing a sweatshirt with the word “Hollywood” across the bottom and several lines of lyrics from the 1995 hit song “California Love” by 2Pac and Dr. Dre. This detail helped further distinguish the suspect, providing investigators with additional information about their appearance.
The incident has baffled local authorities, who have now shared the footage of the theft and the suspects’ return online. The video has been widely circulated, and the Gloucester Township Police Department is urging the public to assist in identifying the individuals involved. The department has asked anyone with information to contact them at 856-228-4500 or to leave an anonymous tip at 856-842-5560.
The suspects’ return to the scene of the crime, especially to complain about the video, has raised questions about their motivations. It’s unclear whether they were simply embarrassed or if they were attempting to intimidate the victim or authorities. Either way, their actions have certainly made the theft stand out, and the bizarre twist has captured the attention of both the public and law enforcement.
This incident serves as a reminder of the power of modern technology, particularly doorbell cameras, in helping to catch criminals and prevent further crimes. It also highlights the unpredictable nature of criminal behavior, as the suspects’ decision to return to the scene of the crime and confront the victim about the video seems almost as strange as the original theft itself.
As the investigation continues, police hope that the public will come forward with any additional information that could help identify the suspects and bring them to justice. The footage posted online has become a key piece of evidence in the case, and authorities are hopeful that someone will recognize the individuals involved, helping to put an end to their criminal behavior.
