President William Ruto reiterated his unwavering commitment to fulfilling every promise made during the last General Election. Speaking at the launch of the Last Mile Connectivity project in Shinyalu, Kakamega County, the President declared that his transformation agenda is on track and will continue to focus on improving the lives of Kenyans through key development initiatives.
The Last Mile Connectivity project, a cornerstone of Ruto’s broader electrification strategy, aims to connect thousands of households across the region to electricity. The government has allocated KSh2.9 billion to Kakamega County alone, with more than 35,000 households set to benefit. Shinyalu, in particular, has been earmarked for KSh243 million to connect 2,500 homes to the national grid. President Ruto emphasized that the initiative is in line with promises made during his campaign, assuring the public that they would be able to access electricity regardless of whether they live in mud or permanent houses. The initiative, he added, provides a more affordable alternative to using kerosene, with households only required to pay their monthly electricity bills.
In addition to the electrification projects, President Ruto also addressed a long-standing concern for the residents of Shinyalu—the dilapidated road infrastructure. He announced that the government has secured funds for the tarmacking of the Airport-Shinyalu-Chepsonoi road, a project that has been eagerly awaited by local communities. With the tendering process set to be completed soon, the road’s upgrade is expected to significantly improve connectivity and ease transportation within the region.
The President’s determination to transform the country was echoed by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who called on all Kenyans to unite behind the President as he delivers on his promises. Kindiki stressed that national unity is essential for the successful implementation of development projects, which will improve access to electricity, enhance healthcare services, and upgrade infrastructure across the country.
“Working together will help us advance our nation’s development and ensure that every Kenyan benefits from the progress we are making,” said Kindiki.
The event was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, and Cabinet Secretaries Wycliffe Oparanya and Opiyo Wandayi. Governor Fernandes Barasa of Kakamega County and various elected leaders also graced the occasion.
As President Ruto pushes forward with his transformative agenda, the people of Kakamega and other regions can expect to see tangible improvements that reflect the government’s promises to enhance the lives of Kenyans through better infrastructure, access to electricity, and improved public services.
