Dadaab Member of Parliament, Farah Maalim, has called for President William Ruto to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his transformative leadership and development efforts across Kenya. Despite some criticism, Maalim argues that the president’s achievements, particularly in uniting the nation and driving unprecedented development, should earn him international recognition.
In a bold statement, Maalim emphasized that if Kenyans were truly nationalistic and patriotic, they would already be advocating for President Ruto to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. He credited the president with bringing about significant progress, particularly since Ruto assumed office in September 2022. Maalim believes that this transformation has not only improved the nation but has also united its people.
“I firmly believe that Kenyans will re-elect President Ruto in 2027 by a large margin, particularly from the North Eastern region, where he has had a profound impact,” Maalim stated. The Wiper Party MP confidently predicted that Ruto would win the support of 99% of voters in the region, particularly pastoralists who have benefited from the president’s development policies.
Maalim also revealed his intention to push for constitutional amendments that would extend Ruto’s leadership beyond 2032. He proposed the establishment of a parliamentary system, which would allow Ruto to return as Prime Minister after his presidential term ends. This proposal reflects the lawmaker’s deep admiration for Ruto’s leadership and his belief that the president’s efforts should be extended.
One of the key areas where President Ruto has made strides is in addressing long-standing issues of underdevelopment and exclusion in marginalized regions, particularly North Eastern Kenya. Maalim praised Ruto for initiating long-awaited infrastructure projects, including electricity connections and road constructions. He also highlighted how Ruto’s administration has resolved the issue of national identity cards, which previously caused a sense of alienation in the region.
“For the first time, we truly feel like Kenyans,” Maalim declared, underscoring the profound impact Ruto’s leadership has had in the North Eastern region.
