President Ruto Kicks Off 4-Day Tour in Nyanza Region, Set to Launch Key Development Projects

President William Ruto has commenced a four-day working tour of the Nyanza region, marking a significant effort to engage with local communities and accelerate development in the area. This visit is part of his broader strategy to solidify his administration’s development agenda across the country, focusing on infrastructure, water, and health projects that are expected to have a transformative impact on the region.

Day 1: Unveiling Water and Road Projects in Migori County

The tour kicked off in Kuria East constituency, Migori County, where President Ruto unveiled the Kegonga Cluster Water Project. This initiative is aimed at providing clean and reliable water supply to thousands of residents in the area, addressing one of the most pressing challenges facing the community. Access to clean water remains a critical issue in many parts of Kenya, and the Kegonga Cluster Water Project is expected to enhance water availability and improve health outcomes for local residents.

Later in the day, President Ruto moved to Nyatike constituency to launch the Lower Kuja Irrigation Project. The irrigation project is poised to boost agricultural productivity by providing consistent water supply to farmlands, thus enhancing food security and supporting local farmers. Agriculture being a backbone of the local economy, this project is a significant step towards sustainable development in the region. Additionally, the President launched the Ngere-Mapera Road in Suna East constituency, a project expected to improve connectivity and stimulate economic activities by facilitating easier movement of goods and people.

Day 2: Focus on Water Supply and Fisheries in Homa Bay County

On the second day of his tour, President Ruto is scheduled to commission the Oyugis Water Project in Homabay County. This project is set to significantly improve water distribution and availability in Oyugis and surrounding areas, further supporting efforts to enhance public health and sanitation.

Following this, the President will head to Homa Bay town to commission the local Fish Market, a critical initiative aimed at boosting the local fishing industry. Fishing is a major economic activity in Homa Bay, and the establishment of a well-equipped market is expected to provide better trading conditions for local fishers, potentially increasing their income and supporting livelihoods in the region.

The day’s activities will conclude with a visit to Rusinga Island, where President Ruto will launch the Ring Road. This road project is anticipated to enhance access to the island, promote tourism, and open up new economic opportunities for the local community. The President will also attend a thanksgiving service for the newly appointed National Treasury Cabinet Secretary, John Mbadi, in Magunga, Suba South constituency.

Day 3: Commissioning Solar Energy and Market Projects in Siaya County

On Friday, the third day of his tour, President Ruto will be in Siaya County, where he will commission the Mageta Island Solar PV Mini Grid. This project represents a critical step towards enhancing energy access in remote areas, supporting local businesses, and improving the quality of life for residents. The President will also launch the Siaya Market and the Siaya Rice Mill, projects that aim to boost local trade and agriculture, providing farmers with better access to markets and processing facilities. He will wrap up the day by gracing a thanksgiving service for Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi.

This institution is expected to enhance skills development and employment opportunities for the youth in the region, particularly in the maritime sector.

The President will also inspect the Lumumba Hospital, a key health facility in Kisumu, to assess its current state and explore potential areas for improvement. The tour will conclude with the launch of the Nyabondo Trauma Centre, aimed at providing critical care and emergency services to the region.

A Commitment to Regional Development

President Ruto’s four-day tour of the Nyanza region underscores his administration’s commitment to regional development and infrastructure improvement. Through these initiatives, the government aims to foster economic growth, improve access to essential services, and uplift the quality of life for the people of Nyanza.
