President William Ruto has assured Kenyans that the financial and management challenges facing Moi University will soon be resolved. Speaking at Ngeria Technical Training Institute in Kapseret Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, the President revealed that a committee has been established to assess the magnitude of the issues and recommend actionable solutions.
“We will put in place an efficient management team and allocate enough resources so that Moi University can thrive like other public universities,” President Ruto said during the event on Friday. He also commissioned a modern ICT lab at the institute, accompanied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Governors Jonathan Bii (Uasin Gishu) and Stephen Sang (Nandi).
In addition to addressing Moi University’s challenges, the President highlighted the government’s commitment to expanding digital connectivity. He stated that efforts to lay 100,000 kilometers of fiber optic cable to connect public institutions to the Internet are underway. He urged the youth to harness the digital space for income-generating activities, cautioning against its misuse for immoral and criminal purposes, including creating computer-generated images of people in coffins.
“Instead of using the Internet to post people in coffins, use it to monetise your talents and create jobs for yourselves,” he said, emphasizing the need for responsible digital use.
Earlier, President Ruto connected the family of Mzee Simeon Nyango to electricity under the Rural Electrification Programme in Kesses Constituency. He announced that KSh1.8 billion would be invested to connect 20,000 households in Uasin Gishu County to electricity in the next three years, as part of a broader plan to connect one million households nationwide.
The President also noted significant economic progress under his administration, citing the reduction of inflation from 9.6% in 2022 to 2.8% and the stabilization of the Kenyan shilling. He attributed these achievements to government interventions such as the subsidized fertilizer program, which has boosted food production and reduced costs.
During the tour, President Ruto inspected various projects, including the Kimuri Earth Dam, Kipchoge Keino Stadium, and Turbo Sub-County offices, reaffirming his administration’s focus on development and unity.
