President William Ruto delivered computers and other digital devices to Kipsoen Technical and Vocational College in Elgeyo Marakwet. This initiative is part of the government’s ambitious Jitume Labs program, designed to create platforms for digital space utilization.
During the presentation of these devices, President Ruto emphasized the government’s dedication to equipping the youth with the necessary digital skills. This effort aims to enable young people to leverage the digital space for job creation and virtual work. The Head of State highlighted that his administration’s goal of linking the youth with the international market through digital avenues is well underway.
Speaking at the event, President Ruto reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing the youthful population with the skills needed to participate in the global online market. He encouraged young people to embrace online marketing and e-commerce as new ways of monetizing their skills and doing business. The President expressed his delight at the increasing number of students enrolling in Technical Training Institutions (TTIs) since the Kenya Kwanza administration took office, noting that the success stories of students earning money through online skills showcase the potential of digital jobs as a new frontier of employment for Kenyan youth.
“I am delighted that our mission to improve digital platforms in the country is becoming accessible for our youth. I call upon young people to take up the opportunity of online jobs by monetizing their digital skills to earn. We are committed to availing internet connectivity to various parts of the country to make this venture a reality,” remarked President Ruto.
Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich also praised the initiative, stating that the digital devices received in the county would be distributed to other TTIs, including Chepsirei, Kapcherop, and Kerio Valley. Governor Rotich commended the Jitume Labs program for its potential to transform the region’s educational landscape and provide students with the tools needed to succeed in the digital economy.
The Jitume Labs initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of fostering innovation and digital inclusion across Kenya. By empowering the youth with digital skills and connecting them to global opportunities, the initiative aims to drive economic growth and create a digitally savvy workforce ready to compete on the international stage.
As the government continues to roll out digital devices and enhance internet connectivity across the country, the Jitume Labs program is set to play a crucial role in shaping Kenya’s digital future.
