The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has reiterated the need for school principals to promptly submit details of transferred teachers. This step is crucial to ensure timely salary adjustments for the teachers who have undergone the transfer process.
The teacher transfer process, managed by the TSC, begins with teachers expressing their interest by filling out a transfer application form. These forms are accessible at TSC offices across the nation and can also be downloaded from the TSC website. Once completed, the forms are submitted to the TSC or its agents through the head of the respective institution.
Upon submission, the transfer requests are acknowledged promptly. The Appointment Board then reviews the requests and communicates its decision to the teacher. Transfer approvals are contingent upon the availability of vacancies and suitable replacements, and the entire process typically spans several months.
For primary school teachers seeking transfers within their county, the process is managed by the TSC County Director. However, transfers to different counties are overseen by the TSC headquarters. Similarly, transfer applications for tertiary institutions are also processed at the TSC headquarters.
Dr. Nancy Macharia, the TSC Secretary, has emphasized the importance of school principals submitting the details of transferred teachers to facilitate prompt salary adjustments. This ensures that teachers receive their correct salaries without delays, thereby maintaining their morale and commitment to their roles.
In addition to addressing the transfer process, Dr. Macharia also urged school principals to prepare for the first group of learners under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). She stressed the significance of principals making adequate preparations to welcome these students, ensuring a smooth transition to the new curriculum.
To assist in this transition, the TSC is preparing comprehensive guidance in the form of circulars. These circulars aim to provide teachers with the necessary information and support to effectively receive and educate students under the CBC framework.
The Competency-Based Curriculum represents a significant shift in the education system, focusing on equipping learners with practical skills and competencies. As the first group of learners under this curriculum begins their educational journey, the role of school principals and teachers in facilitating a successful implementation cannot be overstated.
