Shortlisted Candidates for Members’ Posts
In addition to the Vice-Chairperson candidates, 58 individuals have been shortlisted for the seven commissioner positions at the PSC. The interviews for these positions will take place from Tuesday, November 19, to Wednesday, November 27, 2024. However, the PSC has stated that interviews will not be held over the weekends. Like the Vice-Chairperson candidates, those applying for the commissioners’ posts will undergo the interviews at KICC.
Required Documents for the Interviews
All shortlisted candidates, both for the Vice-Chair and the commissioner positions, are required to bring several important documents to the interviews. They must present their original national identity cards, academic and professional certificates, and transcripts. Additionally, candidates must have clearance from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the Director of Criminal Investigation (Police Clearance), the Registered Credit Reference Bureau, and the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB). They will also need a Self-Declaration form, duly stamped by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). Candidates with degrees from foreign universities must provide a letter of recognition from the Commission for University Education (CUE).
These requirements are in line with the PSC’s commitment to ensuring that all candidates meet the necessary legal and professional standards.
Public Participation and Final Call for Submissions
The PSC has also called on the public to participate in the selection process by providing any relevant information regarding the shortlisted candidates. Members of the public can submit sworn affidavits to the Chairperson of the selection panel at Harambee House, with a deadline of Monday, November 18, 2024. This is an opportunity for the public to share any concerns or additional information they may have regarding the candidates vying for these critical positions.
The PSC is a Constitutional body established under Article 233(1) of the Constitution. Its mandate is to oversee the recruitment, selection, and disciplinary processes for public service positions. It is made up of a Chairperson, a Vice-Chairperson, and seven Commissioners, all of whom are appointed by the President with the approval of the National Assembly. The commission plays a crucial role in ensuring the integrity, professionalism, and efficiency of Kenya’s public service.
Conclusion
The selection of the next Vice-Chairperson and members of the PSC is a significant event for Kenya’s public service, as it directly influences the governance and functioning of the public sector. The upcoming interviews will play a crucial role in determining who will occupy these high-ranking positions. As the date for the interviews approaches, there is heightened interest in the candidates’ qualifications and their vision for the public service, which will no doubt shape the future of the PSC and its impact on Kenya’s civil service.
