Qantas is making it easier than ever for New Zealanders to earn more points and plan their next holiday with an exciting expansion of its Frequent Flyer program. Starting on December 2, New Zealanders who are members of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program will be able to convert their Everyday Rewards points into Qantas Points, offering a new way for Kiwis to gather points and make travel dreams a reality. These points can be earned through purchases at various retailers across New Zealand, including Woolworths supermarkets, bp petrol stations, Petstock stores, and more. The best part is that New Zealanders will be able to earn 50% more Qantas Points compared to Australians when converting their Everyday Rewards points, making the program even more attractive for Kiwi shoppers.
This expansion of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program is built on the successful 16-year partnership between Qantas and Everyday Rewards in Australia. This collaboration has already resulted in billions of points being earned and millions of flight bookings made in the past year alone. Andrew Glance, CEO of Qantas Loyalty, shared his excitement about the program’s growth, emphasizing that the expansion would provide significant benefits for New Zealanders, making it easier for them to earn and redeem points on travel. “With New Zealand home to the most members outside of Australia, it’s important that we continue to grow the program and expand the ways that members can earn points and redeem them for great travel experiences,” Glance said.
The new partnership means that everyday activities like grocery shopping or fueling up the car will now help Kiwis earn points and get closer to their dream holiday. To start earning points, Qantas Frequent Flyer members must first be enrolled in the Everyday Rewards program and select Qantas Points as their preferred reward option. This can be done easily through the Everyday Rewards app or website, making it convenient for members to track their points and watch them grow as they make everyday purchases.
Along with the expansion of the points program, Qantas is also offering a special opportunity for New Zealanders who hold top-tier status with other airline loyalty programs. Starting in the new year, frequent flyers with Gold or higher status from select airlines can fast-track their way to Qantas Gold status. This fast-track offer allows these members to earn 100 Status Credits within 90 days by flying with Qantas, Jetstar, or one of Qantas’ partner airlines. Typically, Gold status is earned by accumulating 700 Status Credits in a year, so this fast-track opportunity is a significant benefit for eligible members. As part of the offer, members who earn their Gold status through the fast track will also receive complimentary access to Qantas Club lounges and extra checked baggage allowances during the 90-day period, helping them enjoy the full range of benefits that come with the Gold status.
Andrew Glance also highlighted the importance of this fast-track offer for frequent flyers, noting that it provides a rare opportunity for travellers to experience all the benefits of Qantas Gold status from day one. “Many frequent flyers made the switch back in 2020, and we know there are more Kiwis travelling with Qantas and Jetstar who want to unlock great benefits like priority check-in and boarding, extra baggage allowance, and access to hundreds of lounges across the Qantas and oneworld network,” Glance said.
The registration period for the Qantas Gold Status Fast Track offer ends on January 14, 2025, with the 90-day travel period beginning on January 15, 2025. Eligible members can earn 100 Status Credits by booking specific routes, such as a return trip from Auckland to New York with Qantas or five return trips from Dunedin to Auckland with Jetstar on domestic flights. This provides ample opportunities for frequent flyers to qualify for the fast track and enjoy the enhanced benefits of Gold status.
In addition to the fast-track offer, Qantas will be removing the NZ$60 join fee for new members who sign up through their website later this month. This move is designed to make it easier for Kiwis to join the Qantas Frequent Flyer program and start earning points. The removal of the join fee comes after data revealed that billions of Qantas Points, equivalent to tens of thousands of trans-Tasman reward seats, go unclaimed each year because travellers have not registered or included their Qantas Frequent Flyer number in their bookings.
