Radio Africa Group has once again demonstrated its industry leadership by emerging as the overall winner in the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers’ (WAN-IFRA) WIN Revenue Incubator competition. The prestigious victory underscores the company’s commitment to excellence and innovation in media revenue generation.
The WAN-IFRA competition, a rigorous six-month program, brought together representatives from nine media houses across five African nations Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe. Participants underwent extensive training in revenue acceleration strategies, media monetization techniques, and business incubation models before presenting their strategic project proposals.
Radio Africa Group’s proposal impressed the judges with its forward-thinking approach, leveraging Artificial Intelligence and digital products to create an interactive digital marketplace and advertising hub. Their innovative strategy outshone submissions from competitors, including Radio Huguka from Rwanda and AB Communications from Zimbabwe, who secured second and third place, respectively.
Digital ABC Programme Lead Khin Thandar, while announcing the results, praised the winners for their exceptional efforts in driving sustainable revenue growth. “We are delighted to announce the winners of the Advanced Module B: Revenue Incubator Course. After a rigorous evaluation process, we recognize Radio Africa Group (Kenya) as the 1st place winner, Radio Huguka (Rwanda) in 2nd place, and AB Communications (Zimbabwe) in 3rd place,” she stated.
Radio Africa Group was represented in the competition by a team comprising Bosco Ondieki (Digital), Florence Wasike (Circulation), Brian Oruta (Digital), and Valentine Ludiema (Radio). Their collective efforts and strategic vision secured the top spot in the highly competitive contest.
Paul Ilado, Editorial Director at Radio Africa Group, lauded the team for their remarkable achievement. “This victory is a testament to your exceptional innovation, strategic planning, and commitment to sustainable revenue growth. It not only highlights your abilities but also demonstrates your capacity to compete and excel in a challenging media landscape,” Ilado remarked.
Echoing these sentiments, Digital Editor Francis Mureithi emphasized the significance of the win in reinforcing Radio Africa Group’s position as a leader in digital innovation. “This achievement showcases our ability to harness emerging technologies to enhance media operations. It opens opportunities for more learning and experimentation to reach wider audiences with credible, factual, and interactive content,” he said.
The victory builds on Radio Africa Group’s winning streak, coming just seven months after the company secured the top prize in the Artificial Intelligence Project Proposal Competition. Their continued success affirms their role as pioneers in shaping the future of digital media in Africa.
