President Ruto Hints at Future Alliance with Raila’s ODM Party

President William Ruto has reiterated his commitment to fostering national unity by appointing Cabinet Secretaries from Raila Odinga’s ODM party, signaling a strategic move aimed at promoting peace, prosperity, and collaboration across political divides. Speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony for Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi at Sitindi grounds in Ugunja, President Ruto emphasized that his cooperation with Raila Odinga is a step toward the greater good of the nation.

“To my elder brother Raila Odinga, I know you’ve been my competitor but today we’ve come together, shoulder to shoulder, for the greater good of the country. I salute you,” President Ruto stated. This alliance marks a significant shift in Kenya’s political landscape, as Ruto and Odinga have traditionally been rivals. By working together, the President hopes to bridge divisions and focus on national development.

President Ruto hinted at the possibility of the ruling alliance collaborating with Raila’s ODM party in the coming years, suggesting a broader coalition in the near future. He urged all leaders to champion national unity and set aside personal differences for the prosperity of the country. “Our challenges are minimal compared to the opportunities that Kenya can take advantage of,” Ruto said, highlighting his vision for a united Kenya.

The President also underscored the importance of impartiality and fairness in his administration, directing Cabinet Secretaries and government officials to serve all Kenyans without bias. “I want Cabinet Secretaries and all government officials to understand that there is no place for bias, discrimination, sectarianism, and exclusion. All Kenyans must be served equally. We must move together as one people,” he emphasized.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua echoed the President’s call for humility and dedication in public service, urging the new Cabinet to prioritize the needs of Kenyans. Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi also emphasized that the partnership between President Ruto and Raila Odinga is intended to benefit the entire nation. Earlier in the day, President Ruto commissioned the Mageta Island Solar Grid, which will connect 1,400 households to electricity. This project, part of the Kenya Electricity Modernisation Project, aims to enhance access to clean and reliable power supply. The installation of seven solar mini-grids will reduce power costs for businesses and supply electricity to more than 4,000 households in Siaya County. The solar grid is expected to support fish trading by powering cold rooms and improving public service delivery in hospitals and schools.
