Uganda to Host 11th East Africa Internet Governance Forum

Uganda is set to host the 11th East Africa Internet Governance Forum (EAIGF), an event aimed at addressing crucial issues that enhance internet development and governance in the region. The East African Community (EAC) announced in a statement on Monday that the forum will take place in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, from September 11 to 12.

The EAIGF, themed “Building our Multistakeholder Digital Future for East Africa,” will be organized in collaboration with Uganda’s chapter of the Internet Society. The forum is expected to draw participants from various sectors of the information and communication technology (ICT) industry, including government representatives, private sector stakeholders, civil society, and academia.

Importance of Effective Internet Governance

In a statement from the EAC headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania, Andrea Aguer Ariik Malueth, the EAC Deputy Secretary General in charge of Infrastructure, Productive, Social, and Political Sectors, emphasized the importance of the forum. He highlighted that effective internet governance is essential for fostering innovation, ensuring security, and promoting inclusivity in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Malueth called on the region’s ICT industry players and other stakeholders to leverage the forum to shape the digital integration agenda for East Africa. “In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, effective internet governance is crucial for fostering innovation, ensuring security, and promoting inclusivity,” said Malueth.
