The M-Pesa Foundation has invested KES 32 million in various health projects in Lamu County. This substantial funding has facilitated the equipping of hospitals with essential medical devices and equipment, enhancing the quality and accessibility of healthcare services for the local community.
Among the newly acquired medical equipment are oxygen machines, nebulizers, medicine trolleys, suction machines, delivery beds, screening equipment, infant monitoring equipment, maternity chairs, and an array of surgical tools. These additions are set to revolutionize the delivery of healthcare in the region, providing much-needed support to medical professionals and improving patient outcomes.
Joseph Ogutu, Chairman of the Safaricom Foundation, emphasized the foundation’s commitment to healthcare, particularly maternal and child healthcare. “Health is one of our key pillars at M-Pesa Foundation, with a major focus on maternal and child healthcare. Since 2018, we have invested in Lamu County under this pillar where we have seen over 30,000 people get access to maternal care. This time round, we are expanding health services to residents of Mokowe while at the same time impacting over 900 residents of Lamu through our extensive medical camps,” Ogutu stated.
The new investments will enable the facility to conduct orthopedic, gynecological, and ophthalmic surgeries. Additionally, patients with specialized cases such as chronic illnesses will have access to necessary treatments. Women suffering from fistula can now be tracked and provided with corrective surgeries, significantly improving their quality of life.
This initiative reflects the M-Pesa Foundation’s ongoing dedication to enhancing healthcare services in underserved regions. By focusing on maternal and child health, the foundation aims to make a lasting impact on the well-being of Lamu County residents. The new equipment and expanded services will not only address immediate healthcare needs but also pave the way for a healthier future for the community.
As these projects continue to unfold, the residents of Lamu County can look forward to better healthcare facilities, improved access to medical treatments, and a stronger support system for maternal and child health. The M-Pesa Foundation’s investment is a testament to the power of collaborative efforts in driving positive change and improving lives.
