A road accident along the Chepsangor-Kimwani-Kopere road in Nandi County has reignited concerns about road safety in the region. The accident occurred as the bus was returning from the Music Festivals at The University of East Africa-Baraton in Nandi, heading towards the students’ homes in Narok County. According to the police report, the bus lost control and veered off the road, landing in a ditch within the Coptic area.

Nandi County Health CECM, Ruth Koech, swiftly attended to the injured at Nandi Hills County Hospital. She reported that three pupils and one teacher have been referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for further management due to the severity of their injuries. The remaining injured individuals are in stable condition and are receiving appropriate medical care.

The accident has prompted local leaders and education stakeholders to call for immediate action from the national government. Bonface Tenai, the KNUT Executive Secretary for Tinderet and Nandi East, emphasized the urgent need for safety measures on the Chepsangor-Kimwani road. “This road has become a death trap. We need barriers and proper signage to prevent further tragedies,” Tenai stated.
