Kenya and China Sign MoUs to Promote Film and Theater

Kenya and China have signed significant Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) aimed at promoting film and theater, marking a milestone in the cultural exchange between the two nations. The signing ceremony, themed ‘Kenya, China TV Theatre,’ showcased various Chinese TV programs and underscored the potential for enriched bilateral relations in the audiovisual sector.

The event was attended by key representatives from both countries, including Dong Xin, Deputy Minister of the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) of China, Timothy Owase, CEO of the Kenya Film Commission, and CPA Pascal Opiyo, CEO of the Kenya Film and Classification Board. Their presence highlighted the importance of this collaboration in enhancing the cultural and creative industries of both countries.

Jimmy Carter Luo, Chief Executive Officer of StarTimes Media (Ke) Ltd, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing its potential impact on film production and cultural exchange. “Kenya, China TV Theatre will pave the way for joint productions, content sharing, and professional exchanges between Kenyan and Chinese media entities. This collaboration is essential for the advancement of our creative industries. It offers a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, technological innovation, and cultural enrichment,” said Carter.

Deputy Minister Dong Xin echoed this optimism, noting that the event signifies a new chapter in Chinese-Kenyan relations in media and entertainment. “This event marks a new chapter in our bilateral relations, particularly in the realm of media and entertainment. We look forward to deepening our collaboration with Kenya to foster cultural exchange and mutual development,” said Dong Xin. The MOUs are expected to catalyze further cooperation, driving growth and innovation in the film and theater sectors of both countries.
