Ng’ando Ward Celebrates Opening of Lenana School Primary, the First Public Primary School

The Ng’ando ward of Dagoretti South constituency, Lenana School Primary has officially opened its doors, marking the first public primary school in the area. The establishment of the school comes in the wake of a tragic incident that underscored the urgent need for safe and accessible educational facilities in the community.

On September 23, 2019, a disaster struck the Precious Talent School, a private institution in Ng’ando ward. A classroom collapse resulted in the deaths of eight young pupils and injuries to 64 others. The victims, learners in grades 1 to 3, tragically fell from the first floor to the ground, with some being struck by falling blocks and debris. This heart-wrenching event brought to light the dire conditions and safety concerns in some of the area’s private schools.

In response to the tragedy, area MP John Kiarie took swift action to address the community’s educational needs. Understanding the importance of providing a safe learning environment, Kiarie fast-tracked the establishment of Lenana School Primary through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF). His commitment to improving education in Dagoretti South is evident as Lenana School Primary is the sixth school to be inaugurated in the constituency this year alone.
