Several social media users and content creators are reported missing after being allegedly abducted in overnight operations across the country, just hours before planned protests against the Finance Bill 2024. Officials indicate that these actions were part of strategies to defuse the anticipated demonstrations against the proposed taxes.
Among those taken was Gabriel Oguda, a well-known social media and political activist. According to officials, Oguda was one of at least ten people rounded up on Tuesday, June 25. At 2:53 am on Tuesday, his brother Zachary Oguda tweeted, “I can confirm that my brother has been taken by unknown gunmen from his house 5 minutes ago. Any tweets coming from Gabriel Oguda were already scheduled. HE ISN’T SAFE.”
Osama Otero, known for his popular X Spaces opposing the Finance Bill 2024, was also reportedly abducted by unidentified individuals. Other X users suspected to have been abducted include Drey Mwangi, TemperCR7, Harriet, Shad, Franje, Worldsmith, and Hilla254. Khalif Kairo was the latest to be reported abducted in what appears to be a coordinated roundup.
The abductions have caused an uproar among families and friends, who are demanding immediate action and accountability. The disappearances highlight growing tensions as the government faces mounting opposition to the proposed Finance Bill.
Authorities have yet to comment on these allegations, and the situation remains tense as the search for the missing individuals continues.
