Major Promotions and Developments by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in the Past Five Years

Dr. Nancy Macharia, the Chief Executive Officer of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), revealed that over 71,000 teachers have been promoted to new grades over the past five years. Dr. Macharia made this announcement during her address at the 47th annual Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) Conference and Exhibition held at Sheikh Zayed Hall in Mombasa.

Of the total number of promoted teachers, a substantial 36,504 were elevated in the 2023/2024 Financial Year alone. Additionally, the TSC has promoted 545 deputy principals to the position of principal across various schools in the country within the same timeframe.

Dr. Macharia also highlighted the establishment of 3,445 new schools over the past five years. This year alone, 160 new classrooms have been built in different parts of the country. She emphasized the need to promote principals in these new institutions to ensure they have substantive leadership appointments.

Looking ahead, the TSC CEO stated that more teachers would be promoted in the upcoming financial year, starting July 2024. She urged principals, especially those nearing retirement, to apply for promotions as the commission has a comprehensive policy on age. This policy ensures that even those with a year left in service can benefit from promotion opportunities.
