HELB Issues Guidelines for First-Time Applicants for Scholarships and Loans

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has recently released comprehensive guidelines for students applying for undergraduate and Technical Vocational and Education Training (TVET) scholarships and loans for the first time. These guidelines aim to streamline the application process and ensure that applicants provide accurate information to facilitate efficient processing.

HELB advises prospective applicants to adhere to the following steps to successfully apply for scholarships and loans:

  1. Registration and Account Creation: Applicants are required to visit HELB’s official website and click on the “register” button to create an account. It’s crucial to use a valid email address and create a memorable password. After registration, applicants must activate their account by checking their email (including Spam/Junk folders) for an activation link.
  2. Personal Information: Ensure all personal details provided during registration are accurate and up-to-date. This includes using the correct KCSE Index Number and examination year, as well as current university or college details.
  3. Documentation: Applicants should possess a national identification (ID) card. Those without a national ID are advised to use their KCSE Index Number instead of borrowing another person’s ID.
  4. Application Process: After account activation, applicants need to log in and verify their phone number. It’s essential to read and understand the terms and conditions of both scholarship and loan applications before proceeding. Consent to the collection and processing of personal data is also required during this stage.
  5. Submission: Complete all required sections of the application form, including updating guarantor details and providing accurate loan payment information (bank or mobile payment). Applicants should promptly submit their application after ensuring all information is correct and verified.
  6. Updates and Communication: Inform funding agencies promptly of any changes such as transferring to a different university or college, changing courses, or updating contact details. Ensure that the agencies have your current email address for effective communication.

HELB opened the application portal for undergraduate and TVET scholarships and loans earlier this year on June 21st. Applicants are encouraged to apply promptly and ensure all required steps are completed accurately to avoid delays in processing.

By following these guidelines meticulously, prospective students can maximize their chances of securing financial assistance through HELB’s scholarship and loan programs. For further details and to initiate the application process, visit HELB’s official website.

This initiative by HELB underscores their commitment to supporting students’ educational aspirations by providing accessible and transparent financial aid opportunities.
