Kalonzo Musyoka Poised for 2027 Presidential Bid, Declares Dominance in Azimio Coalition

Wiper Party leader and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka has announced his readiness to vie for the presidency in the 2027 elections. Speaking alongside prominent leaders from ODM, Jubilee Party, and DAP-Kenya, Musyoka asserted his leadership within the Azimio coalition and positioned himself as the main contender against President William Ruto.

Musyoka’s statement marks a significant shift in the political landscape, underscoring his ambition to ascend to Kenya’s highest office. The announcement was made during a recent rally where Musyoka, buoyed by support from several key coalition figures, underscored his readiness for the upcoming political battle.

“I am ready to face President Ruto in 2027. The people have spoken, and it is clear that Kalonzo Musyoka will be on the ballot as the Azimio candidate,” Musyoka declared, reinforcing his position as a central figure within the coalition. His comments come amid growing speculation about the future leadership of Azimio, following the recent rapprochement between President Ruto and Raila Odinga.

Musyoka’s confidence in leading Azimio was echoed by other coalition leaders. Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni supported Musyoka’s bid, emphasizing that the Wiper leader’s role as a prominent figure in the coalition is widely acknowledged. “Kalonzo will be leading us in the operation Okoa Kenya. Whether you choose to call him the official leader or not is up to you, but it is evident that he has the support of many within the coalition,” Kioni stated.

The endorsement from Kioni and other coalition members reflects a united front among Azimio’s diverse parties, despite recent political developments. DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa also voiced his support for Musyoka, highlighting his unwavering commitment to the coalition and his past collaborations with Raila Odinga. “If ODM has an alternative leader, they should present that name. Our brother Kalonzo has stood with Baba three times, and his dedication to the cause is undeniable,” Wamalwa noted.

ODM Deputy Party leader and Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir reinforced ODM’s commitment to the Azimio coalition. “ODM as a party is firmly in Azimio. Our coalition remains strong, and our moral obligation has not wavered,” Nassir asserted. His statement serves as a reassurance to Azimio supporters that the coalition remains intact despite recent political maneuvers.

Musyoka’s announcement also comes in the wake of President Ruto’s strategic alliances, particularly his recent efforts to strengthen ties with Raila Odinga. Musyoka has accused Ruto of leveraging this newfound friendship to further his political ambitions in Nyanza, suggesting that the President’s actions may be aimed at undermining Azimio’s unity and influence.

As Kenya’s political landscape continues to evolve, Musyoka’s declaration sets the stage for a highly anticipated 2027 presidential race. His firm stance and the backing of key coalition members position him as a formidable contender, capable of challenging President Ruto’s re-election bid.

The coming months will likely see intensified political maneuvering as Musyoka and his allies work to consolidate their position within Azimio and prepare for the electoral contest. With Musyoka’s ambitious vision for Kenya and the support of influential coalition figures, the 2027 presidential race is set to be a dynamic and closely watched political battle.
