Kimobo Hit Bungoma School to Defend County Rugby 7s Title

In an intense and thrilling match, Kimobo Secondary School successfully defended their title, overcoming Bungoma High School with a narrow 14-10 victory in the Bungoma County Rugby 7s final held at Bukembe Boys High School on Saturday.

Kimobo demonstrated their strength early in the match, securing two quick tries that put them in a commanding position. The early surge left Bungoma High School trailing 14-05 at halftime. Despite a determined effort from Bungoma in the second half, which saw them add five more points, they couldn’t close the gap on Kimobo.

Bungoma High School showcased their prowess en route to the final, starting with a solid 12-00 victory over Teremi in the quarterfinals. They then edged out their rivals, Kibabii High School, with a close 12-07 win in the semifinals.

Kimobo’s journey was equally challenging. They faced Friends School Kamusinga in the quarterfinals, emerging victorious with a tight 10-7 scoreline. In the semifinals, they displayed a dominant performance, defeating Kamusinde 21-12.

In the girls’ category, Mbakalo Secondary School emerged as the new champions, narrowly defeating Kimobo 05-00 in a tightly contested final. This victory marked a significant achievement for Mbakalo, who had previously defeated Moi Girls Kamusinga 05-00 in the semifinals. Kimobo girls reached the final after a hard-fought 05-00 win against Kongit Secondary.

The Bungoma County Rugby 7s tournament showcased the exceptional talent and competitive spirit of the participating schools. Both finals, in the boys’ and girls’ categories, were a testament to the high level of rugby played in the county.

Kimobo’s victory in the boys’ final and Mbakalo’s triumph in the girls’ final highlighted the depth of talent and determination within these schools. As the champions celebrated their hard-earned victories, the tournament set a high standard for future competitions.
