Kajiado County has distributed Ksh. 80 million in bursary funds to support 6,000 students across secondary schools and tertiary institutions. This is part of the county government’s efforts to boost access to education, particularly for needy learners. The announcement was made during the official launch of the bursary disbursement by Governor Joseph ole Lenku.
Governor Lenku emphasized the importance of education in shaping the future of the youth, noting that his administration is committed to ensuring that students, especially from disadvantaged backgrounds, are not sent home due to lack of school fees. He further directed the county’s education department to ensure the entire Ksh. 80 million is disbursed within one week to prevent any interruptions to students’ learning.
The fund is divided into two categories: Ksh. 20 million is earmarked for fully sponsored students, while the remaining Ksh. 60 million will be allocated as normal bursary to other eligible learners. This initiative is part of the county’s broader strategy to support education, particularly for those in need.
In addition to the Ksh. 80 million, Kajiado County has set aside a significant annual bursary budget of Ksh. 250 million, with Ksh. 125 million specifically designated for the sponsorship program. This funding underscores the county’s long-term commitment to ensuring that all deserving students have access to quality education, regardless of their financial backgrounds.
The bursary disbursement is a welcome relief for many students and their families, as it ensures that learners can continue their education without the fear of being sent home for unpaid fees. It also highlights the county’s efforts in making education more inclusive and accessible, contributing to the development of a skilled and educated workforce for the future.
This move aligns with the national government’s goals of promoting education as a key pillar for social and economic development in Kenya, demonstrating Kajiado’s commitment to enhancing the learning experience for all its residents.
