Thank you for trusting me! Junet tells Raila after being picked as minority leader

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has expressed his gratitude to Azimio leader Raila Odinga for his selection as the Minority Leader in the National Assembly. Junet, who has been a steadfast ally of Raila and a prominent figure within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), affirmed his commitment to leading the Minority Coalition with dedication and vigor.

“I thank my Party Leader the Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga and @TheODMparty for trusting and proposing me to lead the Minority Coalition in the National Assembly at this pivotal moment. Our movement will triumph,” Junet declared, signaling his readiness to spearhead the coalition’s legislative agenda.

Junet’s appointment comes as part of a strategic reshuffle within the ODM party, reflecting Raila’s confidence in Junet’s leadership abilities. Serving his third term, Junet will replace outgoing Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, who has been nominated to head the Energy and Petroleum docket in President William Ruto’s broad-based government.

Previously, Junet held the position of Minority Whip, a role he has executed with distinction since the last Parliament. His elevation to Minority Leader marks a significant step in his political career, highlighting his growing influence within the ODM and the broader Azimio coalition.

As part of the same reshuffle, Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has been appointed as the new Minority Whip, succeeding Junet. This change was announced following the ODM Central Management Committee meeting, which was chaired by Raila. The committee’s decisions reflect a concerted effort to position key allies in strategic roles, ensuring robust representation and leadership within the National Assembly.

In addition to Junet’s and Odhiambo’s appointments, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has been named chairman of the influential Public Accounts Committee (PAC). Amisi, who is serving his second term, takes over from nominated MP John Mbadi, who has been appointed to head the National Treasury. Amisi expressed his gratitude for the appointment, viewing it as a testament to Raila’s confidence in his leadership.

“This appointment is a testament to the confidence you have placed in me, and I assure you that I will carry out my duties with utmost dedication and integrity. I am committed to upholding the values of transparency and accountability as we work together to strengthen our nation’s governance. Thank you for this incredible opportunity,” Amisi stated.

Further, Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo has been assigned to the Public Investment Committee on Agriculture as the vice chairperson. These appointments, resulting from negotiations following the 2022 general elections, reflect ODM’s strategic positioning within key parliamentary committees.

The reshuffle also saw the official release of the ODM leaders nominated to the Cabinet, who tendered their resignations during the day-long meeting. These changes underscore ODM’s commitment to ensuring effective representation and leadership within both the executive and legislative branches of government.

Junet’s appointment as Minority Leader is a pivotal moment for the ODM and the broader Azimio coalition. With his proven track record and steadfast dedication to his party’s principles, Junet is well-positioned to lead the Minority Coalition towards achieving its legislative goals and ensuring robust oversight of the government. As the new parliamentary session unfolds, all eyes will be on Junet and his team as they navigate the complexities of legislative leadership in a dynamic political landscape.
