Kenya Met Department Issues Weather Update: Rain and Temperature Fluctuations Expected

The Kenya Meteorological Department has released its latest weather update, forecasting the conditions for the period between June 12 and June 16. Despite an overall trend towards dry conditions in most parts of the country, several regions are expected to experience intermittent rainfall and varying temperatures.

The Met Department anticipates rainfall in specific areas, notably the Highlands both East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley. Nairobi and the highlands east of the Rift Valley, which include counties such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, and Kiambu, are forecasted to have afternoon rain showers during this period.

While mornings are expected to be predominantly warm and sunny, especially in the Eastern Highlands, the nights will bring colder, cloudier conditions across the country. This pattern indicates a notable fluctuation between daytime warmth and nighttime chill.

Coastal and Northeastern Regions

For the Coastal region, there is a potential for strong southerly to south-easterly winds. Additionally, intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are projected for parts of the Highlands both East and West of the Rift Valley, as well as the southeastern lowlands including Kisumu, Homabay, and Bungoma.

Temperature Variations

A significant drop in temperature is expected in the highland regions. Kiambu and other highland areas may experience temperatures as low as 7 degrees Celsius. Similarly, Nairobi is projected to endure these low temperatures, matching those of the highlands.

Conversely, the Northeastern counties are bracing for high temperatures, with forecasts indicating peaks up to 37 degrees Celsius, presenting a stark contrast to the cooler highlands.
