Drug Trafficker Arrested with Cannabis Worth Over Ksh 11 Million

Coast region detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) have apprehended a drug trafficker and seized Cannabis sativa (bhang) valued at over Ksh 11 million in a successful operation along the Samburu-Kinango road. The operation followed a crucial tip-off that led the detectives to lay an ambush at Mdomo Centre.

The detectives intercepted a Toyota Ipsum with registration number KBJ 679M, heavily laden with the illegal substance. Upon realizing the imminent trouble, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby thicket. However, the co-driver, identified as 32-year-old Elisha Omondi, was not as fortunate and was apprehended on the spot.

A thorough search of the vehicle revealed seven green gunny sacks filled with long khaki rolls of marijuana, weighing a total of 389.45 kilograms. The street value of the seized narcotics is estimated at Ksh 11,683,500.

The arrested suspect was taken to Mombasa Urban Police Station for processing, while the confiscated drugs were secured as evidence. Meanwhile, detectives are actively pursuing the escaped driver and are confident that his capture is imminent.

This arrest is part of ongoing efforts by the ANU to curb drug trafficking in the region. The operation demonstrates the unit’s commitment to eliminating the drug menace that continues to plague the Coast region and other parts of Kenya.
