The mobile phone belonging to Christine Mwende Mathina, a woman missing since February 2024, has been recovered from the prime suspect in the Kware murders, Collins Jumaisi Khalusha. Christine was last seen in the Mukuru slums of Nairobi, where she lived and worked. This latest discovery brings the number of identified victims from the 13 bodies found at the Kware dump site to three, intensifying the investigation into the suspected serial killer.
The police have confirmed that three families, including those of Josephine Mulongo, Roselyne Akoth, and now Christine Mwende, have provided testimonies that could support murder charges against Khalusha. These developments follow reports from family members who approached the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters, seeking assistance in locating their missing daughter, Christine.
Christine Mwende Mathina went missing on February 27, 2024. On that day, she had plans to meet her boyfriend, Brian Ngumbao, at her house in Mukuru Kwa Njenga. Brian, who was traveling from Thika’s Makongeni area, had been in constant communication with Christine throughout the day. However, around 6:00 PM, Christine’s two Safaricom numbers went unanswered.
Brian recounted that at approximately 6:30 PM, one of Christine’s lines was answered by a male voice. The man claimed Christine had gone to a nearby shop to buy food. Shortly after, both phones were turned off. Concerned, Brian traveled to Christine’s house, only to find it locked. Using his own keys, he discovered Christine’s purse, containing her National Identity card, and some clothes inside the house. Neighbors reported seeing her earlier that morning but had no information on her current whereabouts.
Brian spent the night in Christine’s house, hoping she would return. The next day, he informed Christine’s parents in Kitui County about her disappearance. They advised him to continue searching for her. On February 29, Brian filed a missing person report at Villa Police Station.
The recovery of Christine’s mobile phone from the suspected serial killer’s possession has provided a significant lead in the investigation. The police are now focused on gathering more evidence and testimonies to build a strong case against Khalusha. The families of the victims are hopeful that justice will be served, and the truth about their loved ones’ disappearances will come to light.
Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the case to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. The community remains on high alert as the search for justice for the victims continues.
