The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has renewed its contract with Minet Kenya Insurance Brokers Limited, ensuring the continuation of medical insurance cover for teachers and their dependents for the next two years. This renewal follows extensive consultations with various stakeholders and maintains the same benefits package that teachers enjoyed when Minet Kenya initially secured the contract on December 1, 2022.
Under this contract, teachers are entitled to comprehensive medical cover that includes inpatient, outpatient, dental, optical, maternity, and emergency evacuation benefits. The cover is tiered based on job grade, with teachers in lower job grades (such as B5, which includes primary teachers) entitled to an inpatient cover of Ksh1 million and outpatient cover of Ksh150,000. On the other hand, the highest job group, D5 (which includes Chief Principals), has a more extensive cover, with Ksh3 million allocated for inpatient and Ksh450,000 for outpatient services.
Teachers in all job grades also receive dental and optical covers on a flat rate of Ksh45,000 and Ksh60,000, respectively. Maternity benefits range from Ksh120,000 for Job Group B5 to Ksh300,000 for Job Group D5, with the last expense for all grades capped at Ksh300,000. The cover extends to employed teachers aged 18 to 65 years, their spouse, and up to four dependent children, including both biological and adopted children. Children with disabilities are also covered, with no age limit for those with proven disability status.
The medical cover provides an extensive range of inpatient benefits, including doctor’s fees, ICU care, surgeries, radiology, chemotherapy, physiotherapy, and more. Outpatient benefits include routine consultations, diagnostic services, specialist referrals, and management of chronic conditions like hypertension and diabetes.
With these benefits, Minet Kenya continues to ensure that teachers receive comprehensive healthcare coverage, supporting their well-being and that of their families.
